YARD SALE CRAFT PURCHASES...TIPS WELCOME!

I went back to a yard sale and really looked this time, as I knew the owner was a crafter.  Here's what I picked up...adirondack inks...I've never used them before, and have looked on youtube videos to see how they are used.  It looks really interesting, and I'm excited to try!  This set was $1 and they came with the opalite pigment inks in the pic underneath.  The adirondack inks are all full...some of the opalites are, some are patially used.
Then I bought this roll of textured paper which I am sooo excited to use in my paintings!  I also bought this large sample pad of Paintable papers---each sheet is a different pattern.  The roll and pad were $1.50.
And I bought these two burners with many tips.  They came in a box with this big bag of pieces of wax or glue (like glue sticks maybe?)...Looking at the labels on the burners and looking online I saw that they are woodburners...but that you can used them on many surfaces...including wax.  I don't know if this is wax in the bag or not, as there were glue sticks in the box too.  I got this box full for $3.
These vials are filled with little crystal type balls...some very fine, some a bit bigger.  They aren't beads.  Wondering how I'll use them...but for $1 I took them and will figure something out.
And I bought an assortment of craft books for 50 cents each.
I bought lots of other things there...and am thinking now that I wish I would've gone back again.  There were boxes and boxes of things.  Oh, and I bought Sizzex embossing tool sets with a little machine and a paddle stamp set, as well.  I need to research the use of that as well!  If any of you have used any of these and could give me tips, I would love it!

Oh wow! What a score! I've been dying to try the Ranger inks. I *do* actually know what to do with the tiny bead thingies (that's a technical term, you know.) Or at least I know what I've done with them. Get some heavy gel medium, spread it in whatever pattern you like, and then sprinkle the beads onto it. You will need to gently press on it to make sure the beads embed into the gel. Then let it dry, and you'll have a line of beads on your painting, collage, etc. Hmmm...Suddenly I'm wondering if you could mix the beads into some medium and spread it that way?

That looks like wax in the bag with the woodburner - it looks like yellow beeswax. you can melt the wax with a craft iron then press the letters into them like a wax seal - but with letters. a great way to add words to a collage. the alcohol inks are really fun too - depending on how you use them - you will likely need a heat gun. the ATC Trading card book has some great ideas for using them too! the tiny plastic beads are usually used to coat objects - sort of like a 3-D glitter. they will add a subtle sparkle to any project you use. can't wait to see what you do with them. each of those alcohol inks can be $5 and up. the bead vials are usually in the $2-3 range depending on where you buy them. you made out like a bandit - and i am SOOO jealous!

Oh my goodness... are you kidding me? You got those inks for $1?? You certainly came across the find of the year! :) I love using alcohol inks to distress!

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness is all I can say--you struck gold! I use those little beads in my mixed media pieces sometimes. I apply a little gel medium in the spots where I want them and when it's dry, I just varnish right over them. They really add interesting texture to a piece. Okay, I just saw Kim's comment--she said the same thing :)
So another way that I use them is with crystal lacquer. You apply the crystal laquer and beads and keep doing it (layer after layer) and the lacquer dries like a resin--another very cool effect.

OMG I'm drooling!!!!!!!!! This never happens to me - I gave up on garage sales and can't imagine someone getting rid of this stuff eekkkk. Now, for the first photo which are Alcohol Inks you need to watch the free video how to on my Hero's site www.timholtz.com and go to "demos" and scroll down to alcohol inks! You also got one of his books on Distressables which is techique galore (alcohol inks are in there too). All his video demos are awesome. You can get the alcohol ink applicator tool at Michaels with 40% coupon. Make sure you use felt on it and not the sponge (it's for distress inks which I LOVE). His new book is on his website as well - you hit the jackpot girlie.

I looked again and you got his first distressibles book, I have #2 sorry. Still fabulous and the Melt Art book is very cool too. I'm giggling with delight for you.

What a great find! I think my face turned green with envy :) I especially like to work with alcohol inks and create my own backgrounds (blending two or three colors on glossy paper and touching it up with rubbing alcohol) which I then stamp on or punch out etc. You will have so much fun with these!

Thanks so much for all the tips so far! I will look up the videos online for the inks, and will get a heat gun and the applicator thingy for the inks too! From my understanding the inks only work on certain surfaces, right? The idea that the waxy stuff might be beeswax is great! I hope that's true! I would rather it was wax than glue...I'm excited to incorporate that. The thing is...I'm still thinking of the sale and now that I hear about the beads, and the ideas with using them...I'm thinking, why didn't I get this one big jar that she had for $1? I didn't because at that moment I didn't know what I'd use them for. Now I am thinking of all that I let go....but still thankful...and I just knew you guys would come through in helping me! Thanks so much!
